To back up everything, run the following command:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>adb backup -apk -shared -all -f C:\\Users\\NAME\\backup.ab<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This backs up all your installed apps (APK files) and shared storage (SD card) data to the C:\\Users\\NAME\\backup.ab file on your computer. Replace NAME in the command with your Windows username or provide another location for the backup file.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/image291.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"650\" height=\"138\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After running this command, you\u2019ll have to agree to the backup on your device. You can also encrypt the backup with a password here, if you like.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/image292.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"650\" height=\"332\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Depending on how much data there is to back up, the process may take some time.<\/p>\n<h2>Restoring a Backup<\/h2>\n<p>To restore your backup in the future, run the following command:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>adb restore C:\\Users\\NAME\\backup.ab<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You\u2019ll be asked if you want to do a full restore \u2013 this will replace the data and apps on the device with the ones from your backup. If you encrypted the backup with a password, you\u2019ll have to enter the password to restore it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/image293.png\" alt=\"image\" width=\"650\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>This is a useful feature, but the complexity of using the Android SDK to create and restore backups is a bit much for the average user.
