\nUpdate:\u00a0<\/strong>Google surprised everyone on March 9 by dropping the Android N
\ndeveloper preview without any prior notice. Then, on May 18, 2016, a\u00a0beta
\nbuild\u00a0was\u00a0released following the Google I\/O keynote.\u00a0You can sign up to Google’s\u00a0<\/span>Android
\nBeta Program<\/a>, if you have an eligible device, and you can download\u00a0<\/span>factory
\nimages<\/a>\u00a0directly from Google. Find out the full story on our\u00a0<\/span>Android

I know that not everyone even has Android Lollipop yet, so I won’t just
\nconcentrate on the differences between the two most recent versions of Android.
\nInstead I’ll look at the major areas of the new OS, whether they are new,
\nimproved or missing in action. I’ll break the\u00a0review down into the following
\nsections: the visual appearance of Android Marshmallow; integration of new
\nGoogle products; core features of the system; security; and improvements to
\nusability.<\/p>\n

We’ve added some features that saw light with the update to Android 6.0.1,
\nincluding a host of\u00a0<\/span>new
\nemoji<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and a\u00a0<\/span>double-tap
\ncamera quick-launch feature<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>that
\nhas been added to Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9 devices. Find out more about these below

Android Marshmallow \u00c7\u0131kt\u0131<\/h2>\n

Android Marshmallow was initially announced at Google I\/O on May 28, when it was
\nreleased as the Android M developer preview. Several updates to the preview came
\nout before Marshmallow was officially named on August 17. Google finally
\nunveiled Android 6.0 Marshmallow, alongside the 2015 Nexus devices, on September
\n29, 2015.<\/p>\n

As usual, Google’s Nexus family was first to get the goods, and the brand new\u00a0<\/span>Nexus
\n5X<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Nexus
\n6P<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>were the launch devices for
\nAndroid 6.0. Factory images for most of the existing Nexus range \u2013 the Nexus 5,
\nNexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player \u2013 appeared on October 5.<\/p>\n

Android Marshmallow Tasar\u0131m<\/h2>\n

Android Marshmallow is visually similar to its predecessor, Lollipop, in many
\nways. Google\u2019s Material Design language is now more pervasive than ever before
\nand the main areas of the UI \u2013\u00a0settings, notifications shade and navigation \u2013
\nremain the same. But Marshmallow does have some differences in appearance and
\nnew features.<\/p>\n

Android has let you create shortcuts to particular settings, such as the battery
\nor display, for a while, but until Marshmallow, the icons for these shortcuts
\nall looked the same. Now, the standard cog widget shape contains an icon
\ndepicting what that particular shortcut goes to, as shown in the screenshot
\nbelow.<\/p>\n

The Marshmallow lock screen is almost identical to Lollipop’s, complete with
\nexpandable notifications and app shortcuts. But where Lollipop had shortcuts in
\nthe bottom corners that took you to the camera and dialer, Marshmallow replaces
\nthe dialer shortcut with one to Google\u2019s voice search. This small update is the
\nfirst clue as to just how integral voice commands are to Marshmallow.<\/p>\n

Voice search has a completely new look too. Four colored dots float, become a
\nwaveform and then rotate as your voice request is picked up and processed. The
\nresponse rate varies, depending on the complexity of the search terms and your
\ninternet speed, but the results are generally accurate. You can also launch apps
\nfrom the lock screen using your voice.<\/p>\n

The same voice command functionality appears on the home screen via Google\u2019s
\ndedicated search bar, complete with the colorful, post-Alphabet Google logo. The
\nhome screen itself is essentially the same as it was in Lollipop (the changes to
\nGoogle\u2019s search bar and app icons have rolled out to all devices via updates).<\/p>\n

Google Now, assuming you have signed up for it, returns to its dedicated
\nposition to the immediate left of the default home screen. This area has also
\nbeen updated but again, this is not a Marshmallow exclusive. Google Now on Tap
\n(more on this later) is now launched by a long\u00a0press on the home button in the
\nnavigation bar.<\/p>\n

You have a few options for launching apps: from voice commands, app icons, the
\n‘recent apps’ multitasking cards or the new-look app drawer. You can also jump
\nstraight into the app drawer search bar by long-pressing the app drawer icon.
\nThis shortcut will also launch your keyboard, just as it did in Lollipop.<\/p>\n
