\nIf you are migrating from a Windows or Mac platform, you may wonder
\nif the programs you once used are available for Ubuntu. Some of the programs
\nyou already use have native Linux versions. For those that don\u2019t,
\nthere are free and open source applications that will cover your needs. \ue049is
\nsection will recommend some alternatives that will work well on Ubuntu.
\nMost of the applications listed in this section are available via the So\ue039-

\nOffice Suites

\nIn Ubuntu you may choose among many office suites. \ue049e most popular
\nsuite is the LibreOffice (formerly OpenOffice). Included in the suite:

\n\u2023 Impress\u2014presentation manager
\n\u2023 Draw\u2014drawing program

\nLibreOffice Suite is installed by default. Note that Base is not installed by
\ndefault and it can be installed through Ubuntu So\ue039ware Center.

\nAs with office suites, there are multiple options for email applications.
\nOne very popular email application is Mozilla \ue049underbird, which is also
\navailable for Windows. \ue049underbird is the default email application in
\nUbuntu. Another option is Evolution\u2014similar to Microso\ue039 Outlook, it also
\nprovides a calendar.
\nWeb Browsers

\nEvince is a user-friendly and minimalistic reader, and it is the default
\nreader. If Evince doesn\u2019t cover your needs, Adobe Acrobat Reader is
\navailable for Ubuntu, too.
\nMultimedia Players

\nFor multimedia, Ubuntu users have a wide variety of options for high
\nquality players. VLC is a perennial favorite among videophiles. \ue049e classic

\napplication can be installed through the Ubuntu So\ue039ware Center.

\nNone of the other platform \ue059\ue05d clients have Linux versions. However,
\nyou can use Pidgin, Empathy, or Kopete to communicate over most protocols
\nincluding: \ue051\ue059\ue05d, \ue05d\ue063\ue05e, Google Talk (Jabber\/\ue068\ue05d\ue060\ue060), Facebook, Yahoo!,
\nand \ue059\ue053\ue061. \ue049is means you need only one client to communicate with all of
\nyour friends. \ue049e drawback is that some of these clients have limited video
\nsupport. If you are using \ue05d\ue063\ue05e exclusively, aMSN may be worth a try.
\nVoIP Applications
