Introduction
Some Smart Phones only have 1 memory card option. In that case all installation and configuration files are also on this one memory card. If you would like to replace this memory card by a bigger memory card these files and configurations should be copied also. In this tutorial we would like to explain how to do this.
The goal is to copy (clone) the “partition” to the PC harddrive as one file. After that, the created file should be restored to the new memory card and the “partition” needs to be extended. Now we will explain how to do that in just a few steps.
Requirements
You will need the following:
Step 1.1: Copy the Source
You can now insert the original SDCard in the card reader. When you start the program HDDRawCopyTool you will see the following image. In this program we select the right source: “Generic USB SD Reader”. Now proceed by pressing “Continue”.
Step 1.2: Select Destination
Next you press 2 times on “Double-click to open file”. Here we point out that you’re going to clone the original SDCard to a single file on the harddrive of your computer.
Step 1.3: Select File
Now you can enter a filename and location for the temporary file on the harddrive. In this example, “desktop” is used as location and “mijnoudesdcard” as filename. Next you can proceed bij clicking “save”.
Step 1.4: Confirm Filename
You can check if settings are correct by looking at “File” as “Model” is the location to the file you have selected. Next you can proceed bij clicking “Continue”.
Step 1.5: Check Settings
Next you will see the following screen. A summary is given from the action that will be taken. In the example you see “Source” as the originel SD Card of 512 mb and “Target” as the temporary harddrive file. These settings are correct so you can proceed by clicking “Start”.
Step 1.6: Finalize Step 1
After a short time (depending on the size of the original SD Card) HDDRawCopyTool will be finished copying the SD Card. U will notice this by the green progress bar and the comment “100% complete”. The copy of the SD Card is now ready and u can exit HDDRawCopyTool by pressing the red cross.
Step 2.1: Transfer the copy
Now you can insert the new SD Card into the cardreader. Next you can start the program HDDRawCopyTool again. You will see the following screen. Here you can select “File” by double clicking on this with the left mouse button. The program will now copy the file that we created in step 1 to the new SD Card.
Step 2.2: Select File
Now you can select the file that you have created in step 1.3 . In the example this file is “mijnoudesdcard.imgc” located on the “desktop”. You can select this file and press “open” or you can double click on the file with the left mouse button.
Step 2.3: Select Destination
Next you can select the destination. In the example “File” is selected by default. This needs to be changed to “USB” “Generic USB SD Reader” because that is our new SD Card.
Step 2.4: Confirm Destination
Next you can select “USB” “Generic USB SD Reader” and proceed by clicking “Continue”.
Step 2.5: Check settings
Next you will see the following screen. A summary is given of the action that will be taken. In the example you see “Source” as the tempory file of the original SD Card of 512 mb and “Target” as the new SD Card. These settings are correct so you can proceed by clicking the “Start” button.
Step 2.6: Caution!
Caution! All data on the new SD Card will be erased. Clonemysdcard.com is not responsible in any way for any loss of data.
If you are sure the new (empty) SD Card is in the cardreader you can proceed by clicking “Yes”.
Step 2.7: Finalize Step 2
After a short time (depending on the size of the SD Card) HDDRawCopyTool will be done copying to the new SD Card. You will notice this by the green progress bar and the comment “100% complete”. The clone is now ready and you can exit HDDRawCopyTool by pressing the red X.
Step 3.1: Adjust size
During copying (cloning) of the SD Card, also the size is copied. In our example the original size was 512mb. In our example the size of the new SD Card is 8Gb. Next you have to extend the “partition” of 512mb to 8GB. You can now start the program MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition. You will see a drive letter (in the example “J:”) as 512mb and next to it 6.9GB “Unallocated”. That is how we recorgnize our new cloned SD Card.
Step 3.2: Extend Partition
Next you can extend the partition by hovering above it and select “extend” with your right mouse button.
Step 3.3: Set Size
Next you can select the new size by moving the slider. With smartphones it’s better to use the entire SD Card so the slider can be put to maximum. Below you can see the size of 488.39mb will be adjusted to 7.40Gb. That’s our goal. You can proceed by clicking “OK”.
Step 3.4: Check Settings
In the next screen your will see that drive letter “J:” now is 7.4Gb instead of 512mb of the original SD Card. At this point nothing is changed YET. See next step 3.5.
Step 3.5: Apply Changes
By pressing button “Apply”, the changed settings will be applied.
Step 3.6: Are you Sure
Next the program will ask if you are sure you want to apply these changes. You can confirm by clicking “Yes”.
Step 3.7: Updating Partition
Next the program will be busy for a short while, depending on the size of the SD Card, applying the changes.
Step 3.8: Succes
When the program is done applying changes you will see the following screen. You can exit this screen by clicking “OK”. This is the confirmation that everything went well. Your new SD Card is now ready for use!
